We've all been there. Stopped in your tracks while streaming or gaming by the dreaded buffering circle. Nothing's quite as frustrating as snail-pace Wi-Fi.
At Connect Fibre, we know a thing or two about improving Wi-Fi signal and speed. Between our hyperfast full fibre broadband and latest Wi-Fi technology, we've got some tricks up our sleeve. That's all without mentioning our Connect Mesh (more on that later).
If you're wondering how to make Wi-Fi faster, read on - you'll pick up some helpful tips along the way.
What is a Good Wi-Fi Speed?
First things first, when it comes to boosting Wi-Fi signal, you need understand what it is you're aiming for. A good Wi-Fi speed can be anywhere from 50Mbps for streaming to 1000Mbps for online gaming and bulky downloads. What constitutes 'good' will depend on your usage, of course. If you're suffering from buffering it's fair to say your Wi-Fi speed needs improving.

How To Improve Wi-Fi Speed

Upgrade your Router
If your Wi-Fi is struggling to keep up with the pace, your router may be showing signs of aging. Replacing old routers can boost Wi-Fi speed, improving signal signifciantly in the process.
At Connect Fibre, all our packages feature the latest in router technology. Our Wi-Fi 6 routers may be the answer to your broadband prayers.
Move your Router
Router placement is also important. Stashing it away in the cupboard may make it look a bit tidier, but it could be harming performance. Place your router in a central location within your home or office.
Optimise Router Settings
Optimising your router settings is a crucial step in maximising Wi-Fi speed. Connect Fibre customers can utilise the Channel Finder within the integrated router app. This feature helps you connect to the channel with the least traffic per node. Your speed could be hindered when multiple networks are connected to the same channel. Optimise speed by connecting to a quieter channel.
Get Rid of Intruders
Any issues might actually have nothing to do with the Wi-Fi itself. It could be down to security issues. An open or weakly protected network can attract neighbours who hog bandwidth, impacting speed. Keep an eye on which devices are using the most traffic. If you find any unauthorised users, secure your network with a strong password.

Check your Frequency
For optimal Wi-Fi performance, configure your router to use the 5GHz band. This will give you faster speeds and less interference than the common 2.4GHz band. Access the administration interface to enable the 5GHz band, and ideally, set it to use the same SSID and password as your 2.4GHz network so devices can automatically select the best signal.
Give Connect Mesh a Try
If all of the above haven't worked, why not give our mesh extender a try. Connect Mesh can extend your network coverage and improve signal strength. What's more, we have the UK's best mesh guaranteed - 50Mbps in every room or your money back!
As a rule of thumb, we typically recommend mesh in homes with 3 or more bedrooms. If you want to take it for a spin, you can try Connect Mesh out free of charge for one month on a trial basis.
