What is VoIP?

A basic guide on what VoIP is and how it relates to our Connect Phone service.

VoIP (pronounced voyp) is an acronym for Voice Over Internet Protocol.

Essentially this is a phone call transmitted over a computer network rather than the traditional means.

The benefit is you're not reliant on a fixed line (such as a copper landline) and you can use your VoIP service anywhere in the world so long as you have an internet connection.

How does this relate to Connect Phone?

Connect Phone is a VoIP Service. Think of it like Teams, or Zoom, or WhatsApp call.

Your home phone will be plugged into the Connect Phone Adapter that we provide and will make and receive calls through your full fibre internet service. Or you can log into the Web Portal from any computer with an internet connection and call from there. Please check your call package for any restrictions.

Connect Phone is broadband dependant which means you have flexibility, but also it is important that you have an additional means of contacting emergency services, such as a mobile phone.

If you'd like to move your number over to us, we can help with that! Please take a look at this guide on how we transfer your number.
