A guide to our installation process.
We appreciate that our network may be different to what you're used to and you're curious about the installation process before you book in for the switch!
Traditional broadband installations look something like the image below, with fibre optic cable delivering high speeds to the cabinet and the rest of the route to your property is antiquated copper cable (which may suffer speed issues when it rains!).
We don't use copper cable to get our network to you, which means the entire route of our network from us to your property is fibre optic and much faster, more reliable and fairer! We want our network to be flawless and serve you in the way you deserve it to.
So how do we actually get it into your property? It's easy and simple for us to install Connect Fibre in your home or business. In most cases our friendly engineers will have you connected to your new full fibre broadband and up and running within 1-2 hours of their arrival. But first things first!
Booking your installation
Once you've placed an order for one of our fantastic packages, we will send you a link to book a free standard installation slot. Our engineers work between 9am and 6pm Monday to Friday, so it's easy to pick a convenient slot. If you would rather talk to one of our support team and book it in with us over the phone we can also help you with that instead.
Don't worry! We'll send you booking reminders. You can also change your slot for free anytime if you give us at least 48 hours notice.
NB: Please wait until you have been connected to our broadband before you cancel with your existing provider. This is to make sure you have continuous service during your switch.
Preparing for your installation
So that we can ensure that everything goes 100% smoothly on the day, we may visit your street before your installation date. We do this just to make sure there won't be any issues e.g. blockages or unusual terrain that we have to cross. We won't need to enter your property but we may need access to your garden or drive.
If we do spot any issues that we need to speak to you about our support team will contact you and discuss options. This may include having to pay a non-standard installation charge. See our Price Book for more details.
On installation day we will bring and install your new Wi-Fi 6 router in the best location to give you the best coverage and speeds. The engineer will do a survey of the property to determine where the best location for your new router will be. However before the installation date we advise you to have a think about where your devices are that need fast speeds, like gaming consoles, smart TVs, and if you work from home during the day, where it is you work - as this will help the engineer.
Please have a think in advance where you think the best location may be, and we will find what works best for you and your property.
Installation Day!
A Connect Fibre engineer will arrive promptly (you will be notified every step of the way) and will carry out the following tasks:
- Run a fibre cable to the outside of your premises and install a small box on your external wall.
- Drill a small hole though the external wall to connect the modem (or ONT) which needs to be next to a plug socket.
- Install your new Wi-Fi 6 router in the best location. If you ordered Connect Mesh for whole home Wi-Fi coverage we’ll also setup your nodes (don’t worry, they'll have spare nodes in their van if you want to upgrade on the day).
- Run a few quick tests to make sure that everything is working to our high standards.
- Tidy up, check that you are happy with all the work with a quick survey, and then make sure you are ready to use your new full fibre service!
A few things to remember:
- Someone over the age of 18 has to be present during the installation who is authorised by the account holder
- We use our own engineers, and they are very friendly, so don’t be afraid to ask any questions or to say if you’re not happy with any of the work
- Our engineers are trained to work safely and aren’t allowed to enter lofts, work above 5m, climb roofs, or move any furniture
