Configuring Connect Wi-Fi Client Steering and Node Steering

A quick guide on how to use node and client steering

Client and Node steering is a functionality that ensures all clients (devices) connect to the wireless access point that provides the best performance, this is usually based on proximity or band available and is switched on as a default setting.

Why may I want to turn off my Client/Node steering?

For example, if some devices are connected to the 2.4 GHz instead of the 5 GHz, try turning the device off and then back on first.  If the issue persists, isolate it by turning off the client steering to check if this fixes the issue.

If a device is connected to the furthest node, try power cycling that node.  If the issue persists, then try turning off Node Steering to isolate the issue

This can be turned off and on via the Linksys dashboard.

Simply open a browser and go to http://192.168.1.1/ or access via your Linksys app.

On the left-hand side select/tap Wi-Fi settings as highlighted in yellow below:

The following page will open:

Tap/click the advanced tab as highlighted in yellow above.

This will then take you to the below page:

You can then slide the toggle "off" and "on" on both or either client and node steering.

Disabling the Node Steering option will not affect your mesh network, this will only stop the primary node from sending its suggestion of changing the connection for devices to the secondary nodes
