How do I swap my Parent Router?

A guide to swapping your router.

In some instances we may do some troubleshooting and send out a new router for you or you may upgrade to our Hypersonic Package and need the Wi-Fi 6 Pro router! If we have sent you a new router via a courier this guide is designed to help you set it up.

There are two methods so please make sure you follow the correct one. This can take a little bit of time so if we do recommend giving yourself a bit of time so the router can do what it needs to. Try not to rush ahead and be impatient and please give the set up the time it needs. You could even make a cuppa while you're waiting!

Do you log in with an email and password?

There are two ways to log into the Linksys app, if you are using an email and password please swap your router by following these steps.

  • Go to Menu, then scroll down to Set up New Product
  • Then tap on Add Another Node to Linksys
  • Then the next page will ask the reason why you're adding this node select: To Improve my network by replacing the parent node
  • Follow the instructions on screen as it will take you through the process of swapping your Parent Router.

Do you log in with your Router Password?

The other way of logging in is with your Router Password. Ordinarily you will have used the recovery key on the bottom of your router to set this Router Password yourself. (It may be the password on the bottom of the router or something else that you have set yourself). This is how we recommend you log into the app for the first time and connect to your network.

To swap to your new router when you log in like this.

  • Unplug your old router.
  • Plug in the new router and connect it to the ONT (the modem on the wall) with the ethernet cable.
  • Wait a minimum of 5 minutes.
  • The light should cycle to blue and your connection will return.
  • Run Channel Finder on the Linksys App

  • Please wait for five minutes for this to complete.
  • The light on the top of the router will cycle to blue and once it has you will have connection!
  • Run Channel Finder on the Linksys App

IF you have waited for 5 minutes and the light remains red.

  • Please check the connecting cables between the ONT (the modem on the wall) and the router.
  • If the cable was connected correctly, factory reset the node by pressing and holding the reset button until the light on the top of the node goes off
