How do I set up my Connect Phone Adapter?

A quick guide to setting up your new Phone adapter!

Setting up the Phone Adapter

To get started, take a look at the diagram below! This is how you're going to set up your phone adapter and get your VoIP service up and running. The phone adapter requires a power source to work and is plugged in to both your router and landline phone (not supplied).

There should be a square phone adapter, a blue ethernet cable, a power cable and an RJ11 in the box (please remove the upper packaging if you can't find the ethernet cable).

If you are transferring your number to us your number will still work with your previous provider until it moves over to us.

  • Plug your ethernet cable into an available port on your router and then into the Internet Port.
  • If you need to plug the RJ-11 Dongle on to the end of your landline cable (the end that would've gone into the BT master socket) and then into the Phone Port on the Phone adapter.
  • Plug in the power cable and turn the device on (the device will try to call home as soon as it has power so please power it on last.)
  • This can take up to 10 minutes to complete set up. The power, internet, and finally phone light will come on one after another and then the device will restart.
  • Once it has restarted, try calling out and in to make sure everything is working as it should be! (If you're calling a landline just remember the area code as well!)

Our Calls service requires a working broadband connection and electricity to power the phone adaptor. In case of an emergency, you must always have another means of making calls, such as a mobile phone, to contact Emergency Services.

VoIP Compatible Phones

If you have a handset that is VoIP Compatible that does not have a traditional RJ-11 telephone cable, this equipment is not compatible with our Connect Phone system.

A lot of VoIP compatible phones were never designed to plug into a BT master socket and use a traditional copper line to make calls on. They might also need complicated set up on a web interface.

The Phone Adapter we use, Grandstream HT801, does all the hard work of making most phones compatible with a VoIP system so you don't need to buy a new handset. We can't guarantee every handset will work as there may be incompatibility with older phones and we couldn't advise you on a make or model as we don't supply them. But if it is your first time switching over to a VoIP system, you may not need to buy a new handset for us to get it up and running!

Our Phone adapter was chosen to allow us to support as many sorts of handsets as possible and to make it as easy for you as we can!
