We now seek dynamic, ambitious individual to join our Delivery Team. 

 

The Role

As a Network Active Field Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless operation of our active network. Leveraging a robust background in both active and passive networks, you'll bring a diverse skill set and confidence in handling various equipment. 

 Your proficiency should encompass an understanding of IP technology, enabling you to conduct basic troubleshooting on routers and OLTs. Moreover, practical knowledge of electrical circuitry and hands-on experience with live active network equipment is essential. Provisioning, maintaining and improving street cabinets to make them more efficient at the operational level 

Your expertise in passive network troubleshooting, utilizing tools such as power meters and iOLMs to address optical faults will be invaluable. 

 Reporting to the NAFS Supervisor, you will collaborate closely with the Network Engineering and NOC teams on projects related to building new sites, resolving faults, and conducting preventative maintenance at the Core, Aggregation, and Access levels. 

 

Responsibilities 

As a Network Active Field Engineer, your role includes: 

  1. On-Site Work: Performing tasks at Data centres, Aggregation, and access sites to meet business needs. 
  2. Target Achievement: Meeting monthly goals through the commissioning of new cabinets and the expansion, maintenance, and optimization of existing sites. 
  3. Protocol Development: Establishing and standardizing cabinet design protocols within the company. 
  4. Customer Management: Minimizing disruption to subscribers by effectively managing and prioritizing issues that impact customers. 
  5. Team Collaboration: Working closely with the NOC and Network Engineering teams to quickly and efficiently resolve faults in the active network. 

The Candidate

 The ideal candidate for the Network Active Field Engineer role should have the following qualifications and attributes: 

  • Extensive Experience: At least 3 years of hands-on experience in fibre network and street cabinet environments. 
  • Proven Track Record: Demonstrated success working with telecommunications operators or service partners. 
  • Basic Knowledge of IP Technology: Foundational understanding of IP technology. 
  • Multi-Skilled Expertise: Proven experience as a PON engineer, including skills in fibre cleaning, cabling, and testing. 
  • Passive Network Troubleshooting: Proficient in diagnosing issues in passive networks using specialized equipment such as power meters and iOLMs from Exfo. 
  • Active Network Equipment: Familiarity with the installation and basic configuration of active network equipment. 
  • Documentation and Audits: Ability to document processes and conduct audits through SafetyCulture.
  • Driving License: Valid UK driving license. 

 

Working Conditions

The working conditions for this Network Active Field Engineer role include: 

  • A daily schedule of 8 hours, 5 days per week, with the possibility of occasional out-of-hours work for which overtime compensation may be offered according to the Team Overtime Guidelines. 
  • Participation in a weekly on-call rotation, for which a separate on-call allowance will be provided according to the Team On-Call Guidelines. 
  • With our operations spanning across East and Central England, being on the road should be second nature to you. 
  • Van, Fuel card, PPE kits and tools provided
